Dragons
A Free Verse Thought
Today I sing a hymn to serpents
those scaly tricksters, the sinners, stealers,
vipers, lovers, world-eaters all.
The dragons and wolves, the ones
who hold it all together
or bring it crashing down like
an ancient but beloved rooftop.
Monsters and corrupters so many
call them. But I think they’re
just afraid of truths that come
from forked tongues.
